The Finnish Food Authority completed the laboratorial investigation into the deaths of 19 seals in Porvoo and Loviisa archipelago late July but failed to detect the reason behind the deaths, said the City of Porvoo in a press release on Friday.
Earlier the authority carried out the necropsy of one of the dead seals and said that bird flu was not the reason behind the death.
The carcass was badly rotten as a result it also could not be determined, if any bacterial infection caused the death.
It also remained unknown, whether the carcasses were in warm water or in cold water first and floated to the shore.
Even the seals might have died many weeks or several months ago.
A total of 15 seals were found dead along the shores of the Pellinge islands in Porvoo while four seals were found dead on islands around Loviisa archipelago on July 26 and 27.
The city authority sent one of the dead seals to the Finnish Food Authority laboratory in Oulu for examination.
