Elderly man drowns in Pälkäne beach

An elderly man has drowned in a beach in Pälkäne, a municipality under Pirkanmaa region on Monday morning, police said in a press release.

The incident took place at about 8:30 a.m. when the man born in 1960s went to swim in the water at the beach.

Responding to an alarm, Rescue Service people and police rushed to the spot and recovered the body.

Police did not divulge detail identity of the deceased but said that they did not suspect any crime link to the incident.

Police are investigating into the incident to find out the reason behind the death.

The incidents of drowning increased significantly in Finland during the recent period.

A total of 28 people drowned in Finland in July this year, according to the Finnish Swimming Teaching and Life Saving Association (Suomen Uimaopetus- ja Hengenpelastusliitto-SUH).
