Finn held for crossing Finland-Russia border

The Southeast Finland Border Guard on Friday held a Finnish man for crossing Finland-Russia border at Parikkala illegally, said the Border Guard in a press release.

The man allegedly crossed the Finnish border by land and entered into Russia and again retuned to the country crossing the Russian border.

Responding to an alarm, Border Guard people arrested him from Pitkäpohja area at Parikkala in Southern Finland region.

The man is suspected of crossing the border illegally by travelling between Finland and Russia.

The Finnish Border Guard is investigating into the case and communicated with the Russian Border Guard of Vyborg Region.

The Southeastern Finland Border Guard said that movement in the border zone requires a permission and moving or staying in the zone without permission is punishable.

Finland decided that the border crossing points on the land border between Finland and Russia will remain closed until further notice.
