Nurse sacked for stealing medicines from Helsinki hospital

The Helsinki University Hospital (HUS) authority has terminated a nurse on charge of stealing medicines from the hospital, said the hospital in a press release on Monday.

The authority suspected the nurse of stealing painkillers from the workplace at the New Children's Hospital in the Spring and monitored the activities of the nurse intensively.

After the monitoring the authority confirmed the involvement of the nurse in the stealing in August.

Terming the incident as very unfortunate, HUS authority reported the incident to the police and Valvira, the National Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health.

HUS authority, however, did not divulge detail about the incident as the case is now under investigation of police.

Earlier, in January 2022, another nurse of the Helsinki hospital was held for stealing drugs.
