Former Prime Minister Sanna Marin, also former Chairperson of the main opposition party in the parliament, Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue (Social Democratic Party of Finland-SDP) on Sunday announced to resign from her duty as a councilor of the City of Tampere.
Marin in a twitter post wrote about her resignation as she had already moved to Helsinki permanently last week.
“I have moved permanently from Tampere to Helsinki this week. When the change of residency will be processed, my right to act as a councilor of Tampere will end and I will submit resignation from the city council membership,” Marin wrote in her X (previously Twitter) post.
The former Premier has been serving as a member of the city council since 2012 and also served as its chairperson.
Earlier in September, Marin resigned from the parliament as a lawmaker.
Marin made the announcement as she has been appointed as a Strategic Counsellor at the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change.
She was elected a lawmaker from Tampere bagging second highest votes in the country in the last parliamentary elections held on April 2, 2023.
Earlier on April 5, Marin announced that she would not continue as the Chairperson of the SDP after the next party council scheduled for September.
Marin made the announcement from a press conference in the parliament just after three days of the parliamentary polls took place on April 2 where her party secured third place in the close race election with 43 seats.
