The national social insurance institution- Kela has started to distribute the 2025 edition of the maternity package containing 38 items, said Kela in a press release on Wednesday.
The number of items in this year´s box is one lower than the number in the previous maternity box and same as the number of 2023.
But the number was reduced by 25 in the last six years.
The baby box released in 2022 contained 43 items, the box in 2021 contained 50 items, the box in 2020 contained 56 items and the box for 2019 had 63 items.
The first maternity packages of the 2025 edition have been sent to customers this week.
The start date for the distribution of the new maternity package varies from year to year. The new edition is introduced when stocks of the previous edition run out.
Recipients of the maternity grant can choose between a maternity package and a tax-free cash benefit of EUR 170.
About two-thirds of all who apply for the maternity grant choose the maternity package.
Kela said that the range of items remains largely the same from year to year, for example the colours of the textiles but the number of products varies.
Kela always seeks to improve the contents of the maternity package based on customer feedback. Every year, customers are asked to vote on the pattern of the sleeping bag and snowsuit included in the maternity package.
The package also contains products with features requested by the customers.
The goal is for the products included in the maternity package to promote engagement between the parents and their babies. For example, the package contains a baby’s first book titled Loruleipuri, which is intended to encourage interaction between the child and the parent.
Earlier in May this year, Kela unveiled the baby box for 2025.
