President Alexander Stubb on Tuesday met with his Polish counterpart Karol Nawrocki in Helsinki and discussed various bilateral and international issues including the situation in Ukraine, said an official press release.
The Presidents underscored the need for strengthening bilateral relations between Finland and Poland.
They discussed Russia’s illegal war of aggression in Ukraine and other current security policy issues.
Meanwhile, Stubb on Tuesday held a telephone conversation with the Secretary General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres and stressed the need to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza urgently.
“Thank you for the excellent phone conversation, Secretary General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres. We discussed the steps towards a just and lasting peace in Ukraine,” Stubb wrote in a post on his social media platform X.
He also said that respect for independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity is at the very core of the UN.
“We also discussed the situation in the Middle East and the efforts towards the two-state solution. The need to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza is urgent,” the President wrote in his post.
The Secretary General has launched an important reform initiative of the UN, he said, adding that the international system must better respond to today’s challenges.
