President Alexander Stubb on Wednesday held a telephone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed various bilateral and international issues, said the President Office in a press release.
The President and the Indian Prime Minister discussed Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, as well as geopolitical shifts and their implications for the multilateral system.
“In these turbulent times, the friendship between Finland and India is more important than ever,” Stubb wrote in a post on his social media platform X after the meeting.
Terming Finland as an important partner country in the EU, the Indian Prime Minister in post on his X expressed commitment to elevating ties between the countries.
“Had a fruitful conversation with President Alexander Stubb. Finland is an important partner country in the EU. We are committed to elevating our ties. Exchanged our perspectives on regional and global issues, including the situation in Ukraine,” Modi wrote in the post.
Stubb also had a phone call with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said the President Office in the press release.
Zelenskyy reported on the situation on the front and Ukraine has accepted the proposal for a full and unconditional ceasefire.
“We discussed many issues, including preparations for our next joint steps and our response to possible Russian provocations in the near future,” Zelenskyy wrote in a post on his X.
He also said that he informed about the battlefield situation and our need for air defense systems.
“We also focused on our relations with the United States and the American proposal for an unconditional ceasefire — a proposal to which Russia has been saying “no” for 36 days. Only principled actions can turn such disregard for diplomacy into a path toward peace,” Zelenskyy added.
