President to address UNGA on Sep 24

President Alexander Stubb, accompanied by First Lady Suzanne Innes-Stubb, will travel to New York to lead the Finnish delegation at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on September 22–25, said the President Office in a press release on Thursday.

The session marks the 80th Anniversary of the United Nations as a promoter of peace, development, and human rights.

The President will deliver Finland's national statement at the General Assembly on September 24.

Stubb will also attend the UN High-level International Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution.

In addition, he will take part in the High-level Meeting on Advancing Peace in Ukraine through the Return of Ukrainian Children.

The President and the First Lady will also attend a reception hosted by the President of the United States Donald Trump and his spouse Melania Trump.

During the UN High-level Week, Stubb’s programme also features other high-level events with heads of state and government, as well as several bilateral meetings.

The Finnish delegation will include Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio, Minister of Social Security Sanni Grahn-Laasonen and Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari Multala.

In connection with the UN General Assembly, Suzanne Innes-Stubb will participate in an event discussing the role of First Ladies and Gentlemen in promoting peace and prosperity, a reception hosted by Melania Trump entitled “Fostering the Future Together”, a meeting on education as Ukraine’s backbone of resilience, and an event organised by Sweden on reinvigorating global action for the rights of the child.
