Police officer sacked on charge of raping woman in interrogation cell

An officer of Helsinki police has been dismissed on charge of raping a woman in the interrogation cell, reported national broadcaster Yle on Tuesday.

The incident took place when the police officer was interrogating the woman, a suspect of a human trafficking case inside the premises of Helsinki Police department.

The officer was a member of the investigative team of the human trafficking case.

Earlier on October 3, Helsinki Police in a release said that a senior constable was dismissed on September 18 on charge of suspected sexual offence and official misconduct but did not specified detail about the official and the case.

According to the Yle report, the suspected police officer interrogated the woman several times during the investigation which started in spring 2024.

Earlier in August 2025, a team of National Bureau of Investigation (KRP) arrested the police officer from his office in Pasila.

The team also seized his phone and computer from the office.

He, however, was released after some days following interrogation.

Helsinki Police dismissed him during the investigation considering the severity of the crime, said the Yle report.

The police officer is now suspected of rape and official misconduct.
