The Southeast Finland Border Guard on Tuesday held a man for entering Finland after crossing Finland-Russia border illegally at Vaalimaa, said the Border Guard in a press release on Wednesday.
The man crossed the border by land and was arrested near the border.
He applied for asylum after the arrest.
Border Guard authority, however, did nor disclose detail about the detainee and his nationality.
The Commander of the Southeast Finland Border Guard District communicated with Russian Border Guard’s Vyborg Region in this regard.
The Southeast Finland Border Guard is investigating into the incident as border crime.
