Finland has decided to grant EUR 1 million in humanitarian assistance to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to alleviate the considerable humanitarian needs caused by the earthquake in Myanmar.
The aid to the IFRC will be channelled through the Finnish Red Cross, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in a press release on Friday.
With Finland's support, IFRC will help, for example, internally displaced persons, women and girls as well as persons with disabilities.
“The earthquake in Myanmar has caused substantial damage. Finland supports the provision of health care services, clean water, sanitation and hygiene supplies and temporary shelter", said Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio.
Even prior to the earthquake, the humanitarian situation in Myanmar has been very difficult due to the ongoing conflict in the country.
As part of its allocation of funds, Finland had already previously decided to designate EUR 2 million in humanitarian aid to Myanmar in the first half of 2025 through the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
Finland participates in supporting the humanitarian crisis exacerbated by the earthquake through the International Red cross movement, the UN Emergency Response Fund and Finnish civil society organisations operating in the country.
Several Finnish non-governmental organisations have ongoing humanitarian and development cooperation projects in Myanmar, some of them supported by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
