Finland censures Russian ballistic missile attack on Ukraine

President Alexander Stubb and Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen on Sunday strongly condemned the Russian ballistic missile attack on Ukrainian city of Sumy, which killed at least 21 people.

“Russia continues its barbaric war of aggression. Today, again, slaughtering innocent civilians in Sumy. Russia shows that it has no respect for international law or humanitarian law,” the President wrote in a post on his social media platform X after the attack, adding “we must end this war.”

He said that an unconditional ceasefire must begin at once.

“To make it commit seriously to negotiations, sanctions against Russia need to be further strengthened,” Stubb added.

Valtonen in a post on her X wrote that horrific news from Sumy in Ukraine where Russian missiles killed tens of people including children on their way to church for Palm Sunday.

“My thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones. The world has waited for more than a month for Russia to agree on a ceasefire. Yet it continues to bomb civilians,” the Foreign minister wrote.

She also suggested further strengthening Ukraine's self-defense with military assistance, weakening Russia's war machine with economic sanctions and setting a firm deadline for a ceasefire to stop the war.
