An elderly cyclist, who sustained serious wounds in a road accident in Turku on Friday, succumbed to her injuries in the hospital later, police said on Sunday.
The accident took place when a van knocked down the cyclist at the intersection of Vähäheikkiläntie and Kaskentie near Turku city centre when she was crossing the road on Friday afternoon at about 1:40 p.m.
The cyclist, a woman of her 70s was injured critically in the accident and taken to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries later, said police.
The driver of the van was suspected of murder and grossly endangering traffic safety.
The police, however, did not divulge the detail identities of the deceased and the van driver.
Police are investigating into the incident to find out more information in this regard.
