Death of Helsinki woman suspected as murder, 1 held

Police suspected the death of a woman after falling from the balcony of a building in Helsinki on September 17 as a murder, said police in a press release on Friday.

Members of the law enforcing agency also arrested a man in connection with the incident.

Police, however, did not divulge detail about the incident and the identity of the suspect at the initial stage of the investigation.

"There is reason to suspect homicide in this case, and the police have therefore arrested a man on suspicion of the crime,” said Detective Inspector Juha Piippo, adding that to protect the investigation, the police cannot disclose any further information at this moment.

Earlier on Thursday, Police said that thy did not rule out a criminal offence in the death of a woman.

“The circumstances are still being established, and a criminal offence has not been ruled out,” said police on Thursday.

One person was killed after falling from the balcony of a building in Helsinki City centre area on September 17.

The accident took place at about 6:00 p.m. when a part of the railing of the balcony was broken and the person fell down from the balcony of the building at Hietalahdenkatu area.
