Aranda to remain open for people in Helsinki marking Baltic Sea Day

The marine research vessel Aranda will open its doors to the people at Pakkahuone Quay, near the Old Market Hall on Thursday marking the Baltic Sea Day as part of Helsinki Baltic Sea Festival, said Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE) in a press release.

Visitors can also explore Baltic Sea underwater biodiversity research at Kansalaistori Square, in front of Oodi Helsinki Central Library.

The ship will remain open from 12:00 to 19 O´clock.

Aranda is suitable for multidisciplinary research in the Baltic Sea and the world’s oceans; it has sailed both the North Atlantic and the waters of Antarctica.

In addition to experts from SYKE, experts from Finnish Meteorological Institute, the Natural Resources Institute Finland, and the City of will be onboard to present information and answer questions.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to hear how noisy the underwater environment can be and learn about the well-preserved shipwrecks of the Baltic Sea.

SYKE will also participate in the Baltic Sea Festival activities taking place at Kansalaistori Square.

The authority will allow children onboard only with a supervising adult.

Visitors should be prepared to wait before boarding, as only a limited number of people can enter at a time.
