An elderly person was killed in a road mishap at pedestrian crossing in Asikkala on Monday, police said.
The accident took place after 11:00 a.m. when a private car knocked down the person at the crossing on Rantakulmantie road.
The pedestrian was seriously injured in the accident and taken to the hospital where the person succumbed to the wounds later.
Police, however, did not divulge the identity of the victim and the driver.
Police are investigating into the case as aggravated endangerment of traffic safety and manslaughter.
The Accident Investigation Board is investigating into the case to find out the circumstances surrounding the incident and the reasons behind it.
